The Khan's Palace, a caravanserai and Sheki halva — a weekend in one of Azerbaijan's loveliest towns.
Sheki is a 5-hour drive from Baku at the foot of the Greater Caucasus. The UNESCO-listed Palace of the Shaki Khans dazzles with its shebeke windows and frescoes, and you can spend the night in the medieval Upper Caravanserai.
The food alone is worth the trip: piti, Sheki halva and homemade jams are a must. Extend the trip with the Albanian church in Kish village and the Gakh and Gabala routes.
